So What Is a Fad Diet?

This website is dedicated to talking about fad diets of all kinds and offering an incredible amount of information when it comes to the many hundreds or even thousands of diets that have been created over the years. However while most people get the sense that a “fad diet” is a bad thing as opposed to a good thing, many are hard pressed to make an actual solid definition of the term. Part of this is because arguments over certain diets have some people wondering whether or not it is actually a fad or not. For example: low carb diets in general and the Atkins Diet in the particular. While the Atkins Diet is a low carb diet, not every low carb diet follows the rule of the Atkins eating plan. Many recent studies as of 2011 show that many low carb diets when done properly are extremely beneficial and some of the best overall healthy weight loss plans out there.
That doesn’t necessarily mean that the Atkins Diet is healthy, just that some low carb diets can be a good idea while others go too far. Many people believe common diet myths, while others just don’t know what the most recent research says. Then there’s one simple truth that not enough people realize: everybody is different, and every body is different. What works easily for one person might be pure misery for another. Some people process proteins much better than carbs while others are the complete opposite.
The technical definition of a fad diet is one that becomes very popular or trendy for a short time. Sometimes this is because it’s brand new, sometimes it’s a result of a Hollywood star using it, and other times the diet just appears and disappears. However, there is also a general understanding or acceptance that the term “fad diet” can be used for any unhealthy diet, temporary diet, or any eating plan that isn’t a good long term solution to healthy weight loss.
